In 1960 the Eames office was commissioned by Time Inc. to fit out three lobbies in the Rockefeller Center in New York. As well as complete interior fixtures and fittings the project included the comfortable Lobby Chairs and a series of solid walnut stools. These turned stools which (as Ray Eames originally intended) can also be used as occasional tables, have three different design details in their centre sections.The Eames Lounge Chair is a classic icon of style and comfort. The Lounge Chair is one of the most famous designs by Charles and Ray Eames. Created in 1956 it is now a classic in the history of modern furniture. Charles and Ray Eames always understood design to be a continuous process - one that did not end when production began. The main goal of the Eames Lounge Chair was - and still is - to offer users maximum sitting comfort.

The Lounge Chair is a modern interpretation of the traditional club chair. It consists of three laminated wood shells which are attached to metal elements on shock mounts. This makes for a flexible connection. Soft, detachable leather upholstery sections attached to the wooden shells
provide the comfort. The Ottoman compliments the chair.

Materials Chair:

Veneered laminated wooden shells in Santos Palisander (FSC certified), cherry or walnut.
Shells in cherry optionally stained or lacquered.
Removable cushion units in leather with natural tanning.
Back frame made of cast aluminium, optionally chromed or with sides black and polished edges.
Individual bentwood shells connected with shock mounts (rubber and metal connectors).
Fivestar swivel base.
